Last night was my lovely friend Vini’s 60th birthday party, and to celebrate I made her this rich, moist cointreau gateau with chocolate ganache. I was inspired by Rose Levy Beranbaum’s recipe for grand marinier wedding cake, from her book Rose’s Heavenly Cakes. The chocolate ganache was a dream and worked perfectly – it was silky and glossy. To top it off, I piled jewel-like fresh farm strawberries on and around the cake, to make a fresh contrast to the cake’s richness.
