Women’s Health Diary floral styling

Friday, 21 October 2011

You may have seen a few copies at a newsagent already, but here it is – the Women’s Health Diary of 2012. And on the cover you can see my first official big editorial styling job! I’m very excited to share it with you. It’s produced by the Australian Women’s Weekly in conjunction with the Breast Cancer Institute of Australia. You can buy a copy here.

I enjoyed working with photographer Dave Hann and art director Ellen Erickson in the studio to work together a fresh floral border of white, pink and green flowers and fruit. It included white phalaenopsis and Singapore orchids, pink anthuriums, parrot tulips, hyacinths and roses, green chrysanthemums, kiwifruit, limes and lotus pods. I took a couple of behind the scenes shots on my iPhone to share with you. We shot the 2013 dairy cover last weekend – now that’s organised! I’m looking forward to seeing how that turns out, although we’ll have to wait around a year!

Gluten-free wedding cake

Friday, 21 October 2011

A bride contacted me recently to make a gluten-free wedding cake for an afternoon tea she and her groom would be holding directly after their ceremony. They wanted a small single-tiered cake to cut after making some speeches and asked that it be gluten-free to serve their guests with special dietary requirements. I came up with this moist orange and almond sponge cake covered in golden buttercream icing. I decorated it with fresh white ranunculus, parrot tulips, roses and dusty miller.

Here’s just a little sample of the yummy treats that came out of my kitchen last weekend. I guess the rainy days weren’t a total waste!
